Benson Boone: Fireworks and Rollerblades
American singer/songwriter/multi instrumentalist Benson Boone charges out of the social media gate with this impressive debut released in April 2024.
Riding the cyber wave generated by TikTok/Twitter followers in the millions, he soon came to the attention of Dan Reynolds ( Imagine Dragons) who quickly signed him to his label.
Boones emotive, poignant multi octave vocal style is front and center here, transitioning between a highly charged guttural growl to a gentle, yearning croon. His use of falsetto to accentuate the melodic soundscapes works well throughout.
As a songwriter, Boone certainly delivers the goods as well.
From the emotionally charged “Slow it Down” to the beautifully haunting , piano driven “Forever and a Day”, the tracks resonate with an honest, brazen appeal that easily draws the listener in.
As I listened, I couldn’t help but be reminded of another trailblazing debut from thirty years ago…the sublime “Grace” by Jeff Buckley, who’s career was tragically cut short before he could offer up his sophomore release.
